Five maps, one corpus: which network answers which question

Co-authorship, term co-occurrence, citation, co-citation and bibliographic coupling each reveal a different structure. A short field guide.

This post will explain the five bibliometric map types with worked examples from a public corpus, and show how SciNodes chooses between them when you ask a research question.

Each section will pair a question (“Which papers does everything build on?”) with the map that answers it (co-citation), the settings that matter (minimum co-citations, clustering resolution) and a figure.

Until then, the Academy has a track on network maps, and the docs describe every setting.
